On 7TH April 2016, Signal announced that its Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with the University of Essex has resulted in the University being shortlisted in the prestigious KTP Initiative of the Year category of the Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards 2016. David Benigson, CEO of Signal commented: ‘For a company like Signal, where we pride ourselves on being at the cutting edge of machine learning, natural language processing and AI technology, to be recognised for our collaborations with leading academic institutions is a fantastic achievement.’ The University of Essex entered the awards following the success of their KTP with Signal. Signal, and in particular Dr Miguel Martinez - who has previously won the KTP's Business Leader of Tomorrow award - work closely with a number of leading academic institutions but have built up a special relationship with academic advisor Udo Kruschwitz and the team at Essex. Dr Martinez worked on the KTP with Signal during his PhD at Essex, is one of the company's co-founders. Dr Miguel Martinez concluded: ‘We're delighted to have been shortlisted for this award as an example of the collaboration between university and industry. Innovation through research, especially with university collaborations has always been at the heart of Signal, and it is something we are proud of.’ The awards panel judge submissions by looking for outstanding examples of best practice during the 2014-15 academic year. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on 23 June.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
